Mallen Alley Racing Makes Winning Double The Fun

Mallen Alley Racing spent the 4th of July weekend celebrating by winning both of the SCCA's national championship points races at the Roebling Road Raceway just outside of Historic Savannah, Georgia.

The Mallen Alley duo of Adam Malley and Kevin Allen competed in a car that they designed and built. The competition consisted of some of the best cars and drivers in the nation, cars that have been favorites to win The Sports Car Club of America's national championship. None of them were able to hold back the ConyersGa.com Mallen Alley PP1 sportsracer that won both races during the course of the race weekend.

Adam handling race engineer duties and Kevin driving this weekend turned out to be a formidable combination as they qualified on the pole for both races and won them convincingly. The Saturday race started with a wet track and dried quickly. The decision was made to start on rain tires and it nearly cost a first win. With over a 30 second lead early in the race, it looked to be a walk in the park but as the track dried it began to punish the rain tires. Kevin worked hard to ask as little of the tires as he could, the goal being to keep them from overheating on the dry track. Adam was timing the gap back to the next car and with a few laps to go the lead had dwindled to less than 5 seconds. At this point there was nothing to save the tires for and Kevin had to abandon his smooth approach and just wring out whatever was left . The strategy paid off and they came home with the win by less than 3 seconds. The Hoosier tires performed wonderfully considering the abuse.

"I didn't think I was going to be able to keep the lead, when Adam flashed me the +6 (seconds) sign, I just had to go for it." I had the car sideways through all the turns and worked really hard those last few laps". "It was a great win for Adam and I and we have to thank the City of Conyers, Georgia for their support in getting us here."

The Sunday race had no surprises for the team as it was just hot and sunny. This is a challenge in itself as the track surface gets really slippery in those conditions. Fortunately, the practice the day before would pay off. Kevin started on the pole like he had for Saturday's race but this time there was little doubt as to the outcome, the PP1 just disappeared into the distance. At the halfway point of the race Kevin lapped the second place car and went on to an amazing overall win. To say the pair was excited would be an understatement, "Awesome!!!!! That was just incredible!" "After the years of working on this car and coming here to the biggest race in the southeast division and take two wins was unbelievably great" Adam went on, "We built this car and have been working hard to get to this point, sometimes you wonder if it was all worth it, this really feels good!!!"

In this, it's first year of competition, the Mallen Alley car has managed to win two races and secure an invitation to the SCCA's National Championship race in Topeka Kansas. This event called the Runoffs is a winner take all event where the winner of the event is the national champion. The event has been won by many notable drivers such as Bobby Rahal, Scott Pruett and four times by Conyer's own Adam Malley. The event is in October and the Malley Alley team is currently working on updates and improvements to their package to make a good showing. "We aren't going to just make an appearance," Adam said, "We want to win, we have the car and experience to do so, we just have to work twice as hard to get ready."
